could it be argued that gilman intentionally uses a gothic setting to mask the true femminist themes/ intention of the novel due to fear of critisim and backlash amidst the first wave of feminism. or was this fear of women writing feminist literate (such as the bronte sisters using differnt names and other classical female writers making their charcaters conform to traditional female architypes) abolished by this time?
